Best Practices for 12-Step Zoom Meetings
Here's some best practices for 12-Step Zoom meetings. See the email address at the bottom of the page if you want to send improvements.
- Update your meeting format or script with Zoom meeting etiquette, so everyone knows what to do and the meeting isn't disrupted by people not following etiquitte or pointing out etiquite. Tips could inlcude:
- Mute yourself when not talking.
- Turn on your video and have good lighting so people can see your face.
- Turn off video when moving around to not distract others.
- Don't use the chat window to have side conversations (crosstalk).
- Show the meeting secretary how to mute people– people that are muted by the secretary can unmute themselves if necessary. This reduces background noise when people forget to mute.
- Disruptions: if disruptions by trolls or others are a problem, here are some ideas:
- Have the meeting secretary call for a group conscience about removing the disruptive person from the meeting. If the meeting decides to do that, have the meeting host (usually the secretary) use the Zoom Manage Participants > (person's name) > More > Remove to remove the person.
- If necessary, appoint a Zoom Co-host service position and have that person manage removing disruptive people.
- Use a meeting passcode to keep people without the passcode out. Have an email address to contact if someone wants the passcode so they can attend.
- Make sure your meeting sets the Zoom Settings for the meeting for privacy, See NY AA Intergroup recommended Zoom settings.
